The Pedro Bank & Cays

The South West Cay Special Fisheries Conservation Area is located on the Pedro Bank, some 90 miles south-west of Jamaica. The Jamaica Environment Trust (JET) has provided management, patrol, biological monitoring (fish, coral and birds) and educational services to the Fisheries Division, by raising funding from the private sector and The Nature Conservancy (TNC). The Jamaica Marine Police and Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard, who work on the Pedro Bank, also benefited from professional development workshops delivered by JET.

We are concerned about the extremely unsanitary conditions which persist on Middle Cay, where there is a population of residents. In partnership with TNC and the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), we have also assisted with the preparation of a Marine Spatial Plan for the Pedro Bank & Cays.
