Improving attitudes and practices towards solid waste management through community activities and awareness building sessions
This project will focus on one component of the broader Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica campaign –Model Communities. The communities of Brown’s Town, Discovery Bay and Runaway Bay in St. Ann have been selected to be a part of the project. These communities have strong Community Development Committees (CDCs) who will assist with the implementation of the project. They also have issues with solid waste management and have identified it as a priority issue for the community to address.
Through the project, the communities will receive assistance with starting and maintaining a community recycling programme, and training in proper solid waste management – the programme will also consider the specific needs of the community. Interventions with these communities will include in-person site visits, workshops and the provision of equipment needed to set up the waste management programme.
