Jamaica Environment Trust (JET) received funding in November 2021 from the Joanna Toole GloLitter Grant, which is managed by Ocean Conservancy on behalf of the GloLitter Partnerships Project and funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). The purpose of the funding was to deliver the project “Addressing the issue of ALDFG and plastics within the Palisadoes-Port Royal Protected Area (P-PRPA) and Kingston Harbour Beaches”. The project took place over 11 months and had three primary objectives:

  1. To remove ALDFG and plastics along rim beaches of Kingston Harbour and the P-PRPA.
  2. To identify the main types and sources of waste and ALDFG found in the target area.
  3. To determine possible solutions with fishers and other key stakeholders for reducing ALDFG in the Kingston Harbour area.
